Write Another
You’ve written a book. You’ve done something that people dream of, and the best thing you can do is to write another one. If you do nothing else, keep writing.
If you think this book you’ve written is great, imagine how great your fifth or fiftieth will be!
Hire An Illustrator
This obviously doesn’t apply if you are an illustrator yourself.
However, if you aren’t an illustrator, you can find one by using the power of the internet or do what I did – Announce to your yoga class you’re looking for an illustrator! That’s how I found Duncan!
Consider Your Publishing Options, Choose One and Go For It
You have a lot of options. Here are a few:
- Find an agent and go for a traditional publishing contract!
- Self-publish on Amazon and other platforms using Amazon resources, IngramSpark, or BookBaby!
- Go to Kinko’s and make your own!
Use Google and do some research before deciding.
If you like to have control over things, I recommend self-publishing.
If you want to just make it and have someone else handle the other stuff, consider traditional publishing, but keep in mind that it will be a while before you find an agent who then finds a publisher for you. And, you’ll still have to market yourself.
The most important thing you can do, though, is to celebrate! Writing a book – yes, even children’s books – is hard work. You’ve created something from a tiny, electrical pulse in your mind. How spectacular is that.
